For this project we were given the task of finding something to draw in perspective. I had recently been to NY over the summer and had this really nice picture of skyscrapers. I thought it would be cool to do a piece like this. Little did I know how much work it would take. I started off with an outline with a light pencil and the help of a ruler. I really had to get the angles right or it would throw the whole drawing off.
I had a bit of trouble with the building in the middle. I just couldn't get the angle right! It took up so much of my time and I started to get frustrated. I took a break and started to work on the tall one behind it, because I knew it had a lot of detail. After I finished outlining I began to go over lines with a darker pencil and started to add more detail in the windows. I finally got the middle building right! After I had drew everything where it needed to be I knew it was time for value.
Adding the value was my biggest challenge. Drawing it took long enough, now I had to fill it in. This portion of the project took the longest time! The first building in itself had several different values and I wanted to me constant throughout, so certain sections had to look the same. If a specific part was to dark I had to erase and try to fix it. With the windows I had to add depth to make it more realistic and they had to be different darknesses according to where they were (because if its higher up it's really dark). It was really exhausting! Then when I finally finished the first building I had to remember I had two more to go. Oh boy.
I started to lack motivation, because in class we were moving onto other projects that had caught my interest, so I just focused on those. It was tough, but I knew I eventually had to get this project done. For the middle building I had to shade lightly, so the lines wouldn't get lost. For the last building I added some texture on the side and completed my windows. I also had to shade lightly, so that the windows wouldn't be overpowered. I was so relieved when I finished! Drawing building are harder than they look, for sure!
