The final assignment using the contouring technique was drawing instruments. I realized that drawing instruments is way hard than it looks! There is so much detail and it really takes a lot of patience. The class was assigned to do a close up and a big picture. I really liked my close up, because I could focus more on the details and the lights and darks instead of being overwhelmed by the big picture. I really liked doing the drapery and am really happy of how it turned out. Some of the angles are a little off, but for the most part you could see what instrument was what. This final assignment really gave me a better outlook and confidence on contour line drawings.
Although dreading this assignment at first, I ended up liking it. The task of drawing a section of the room was a very intimidating at the start, I must admit. I managed to push through and finish the assignment. I tried to include as much detail as possible and it really brought the room together. I really liked doing the books for some reason and even though it seemed like I was just scribbling, a viewer can still tell that it's books on the shelves. I am very proud of this piece even though it wasn't a project and just a class assignment. I really surprised myself, because my contouring technique was better than I thought.
Another assignment we were given using the contouring technique was to draw a backpack. I spent a good amount of time on this and it turned out pretty well. I does look more like it was sketched instead of contoured. I swear I used the contouring technique! Next time I'll make sure that I don't go over the lines so much that it looks sketch.
The class was working on contour line drawings and to start off the unit we were drawing hands. I was really surprised that my blind contour hand drawings were better than when I was looking at my hand. In the blind hand drawing you can see the fingers, the fingernails, the lines in the hand and are somewhat accurate. In the contour line drawing where I was looking, the lines in the hands are really nice, but I somehow elongated my hand so it looks like an ape. On the bright side at least the fingers look nice.
Working on our perspective skills we were assigned to draw a corner of the room. I decided to zoom in on my corner to get the fine details. I even included the man taped in the corner. Once again I tried working with the perspective technique. Some of the lines look alright and others look a little off. Practice makes perfect!
My first task in drawing was to sketch a picture of fully shaded hand. I used a F type drawing pencil and a blendy stick. I really like my shading work, but I had a little trouble with the perspective. Luckily that's one of the skills that I will try to sharpen in this class.
